THE ANKH |
|
The Ankh - was adopted by the Universal Negro Improvement Association ("UNIA") and African Communities League ("ACL") by the parent body and its membership.
In 1989, at the UNIA and ACL's 36th International Convention the Ankh was adopted as the official logotype.
The Ankh - is a tau cross (T) with a loop at the top. It is a sacred emblem in Kemet symbolizing life. The Ankh is also referred to as the Crux Ansata, representative as the key to life.
The Ankh is the oldest metaphysical symbol known to humanity. This symbol evolved over 5,000 years ago in African antiquity -- civilization and culture.
Our symbol [the Ankh T logotype}, represents and is a representative of divine life and divine creation. It symbolizes the unity of opposites, the creation of life, the unity of masculine and feminine forces in the universe. It is symbolic of the union of male and female and the conceiving of offspring; the yin and yang and the positive and negative forces in the universe.
It symbolizes the mathematical and physical laws of nature. It symbolizes hot and cold, soft and hard, smooth and rough, wet and dry, all-in-one compendium.
As the UNIA represents and is a representative of the all-in-one compendium a holistic vehicle for African emancipation, African redemption and sovereignty. It is a perfect eternal symbol of our ancient past, to adopt and personify the premium of our past; as in the Red, Black and Green. The dialectics of the Red, Black and Green colors of our official banner evolved out of the same African civilization culture of the Nile or Hapi valley.
The ankh will prove to be a splendid logotype and insignia of the UNIA. It illustrates the high development of the African creative genius and that of the UNIA and ACL as a continuum of the past in conjunction of the present.
The Ankh -- is not a religious symbol, nor is the UNIA and ACL a religious institution!
The Ankh is a high representation of esoteric order as is the UNIA and ACL an institution of high organizational order.
It is of logical and natural consequence and equilibrium that the convention of the UNIA and ACL receive and adopt this symbol as the official symbol of the UNIA and ACL, in as this universal body is sacred to the African race.
