UNIA & ACL Establishes Legal Defense Committee |
April 12, 2006
At the August 2005 convention, held in Durham North Carolina, the UNIA & ACL established a Legal Defense Committee, known as the LDC. I was appointed its Chairperson.
We live in a society which is a minefield of legal consequences. For many years, the UNIA-ACL has faced numerous legal issues. If we are to continue the great works started by our illustrious founder, The Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey Sr., we have no other choice but to fortify ourselves legally.
A call is being sent to UNIA & ACL members in good standing who have legal skills who may be interested in being a part of this Committee. Being a member of the ABA or any other bar is not required. We require persons who have experience in legal research, interviewing, or writing (especially in the area of grievance procedures and mediation).
Those with experience in all levels of litigation are also essential, as are those with law office management and fundraising. Anyone who has ever been involved with litigation knows that the ?business and the practice? of law is extremely expensive and to that end we will be creating a legal defense fund.
If you wish to be involved in any area, please send a resume to:
